Carol S. arrived at The Encore at Boca Raton on May 10, 2026, following shoulder surgery at Delray Medical Center, her goal was clear: regain her strength, improve her range of motion, and return home safely and confidently. What none of us could fully appreciate on that first day was that Carol’s journey toward healing would extend far beyond physical rehabilitation.
As a Concierge, I had the privilege of being one of the first team members to welcome Carol to The Encore. During our initial conversations, it became clear that while Carol was determined to heal physically, she was also carrying an emotional burden.
She arrived Mother’s Day… and was struggling with the pain of a strained relationship with her daughter, a wound that in many ways, felt just as significant as the one that had brought her to us. Throughout her stay, Carol worked diligently with our exceptional rehabilitation team, particularly Amanda and Angie, whose expertise, encouragement, and dedication helped her steadily regain strength and mobility in her shoulder. At the same time, through meaningful conversations and the support of our vibrant recreation programming, Carol began another form of rehabilitation: the work of forgiveness, reflection, and emotional healing.
I’ve learned in my role at The Encore healing whether physical or emotional is rarely easy. It requires courage, persistence, vulnerability, and faith in the process. Together, we explored the profound connection between forgiveness and wellness, and how releasing emotional pain can sometimes create space for physical healing to flourish. And just as Carol’s shoulder began to regain its range of motion, something equally remarkable happened: the range of motion within her relationship with her daughter began to expand as well.
Through difficult conversations, renewed understanding, and a willingness to keep moving forward, Carol and her daughter found themselves reconnecting. What once felt fractured began to feel restored. Today, as Carol prepares to discharge home on July 1, 2026, she does so with renewed strength, renewed confidence, and, perhaps most importantly, renewed relationships.
In Carol’s own words, her relationship with her daughter now feels “renewed.” It was then that I had the privilege of reminding her of the phrase we live by every day at The Encore: Renewal Happens Here!
Carol is returning home stronger, braver, and more flexible in body, mind, and spirit. Her journey reminds us all that healing is never simply about recovering what was lost. Sometimes, it’s about discovering what can still be restored. At The Encore, we are honored to have been part of Carol’s journey toward renewal.
