Details of experience:
Atma Heller’s life was normal, at best, until the unimaginable happened. Her life changed drastically, as COVID-19 sent her to the hospital on a ventilator for many months. While trying to heal, it was discovered that she developed quadriplegia. She was also diagnosed with pneumonia. In such a short amount of time, everything Atma once did, she could not do anymore. She was no longer able to take her afternoon stroll; she was no longer able to live the life she wanted. Everything became unbearable, and she almost lost hope.

After a long stay at the hospital, she was told she required subacute rehabilitation before returning home. She was admitted to the Encore at Boca Raton on March 30, 2021. After being greeted by our admissions team, our dedicated therapy staff got to work.

Atma regained hope and stayed motivated. She participated in therapy daily. She worked with her therapists, learning how to walk again, practicing dressing and toileting, and learning ways to conserve energy. Everyone was so proud of how much she improved so quickly.

Not only did Atma participate in therapy, but she also enjoyed participating in various activities. She loved the outdoor activities and enjoyed the great music brought by our outdoor boombox!

After many weeks of hard, intensive therapy, Atma’s social worker stated, “Atma was able to WALK out of here!”. Atma and her family were thrilled at the professionalism and the kindness of our employees. They stated, “we can’t wait to recommend all our friends to the Encore!”

Team Encore would like to congratulate Atma on her success and wish her the best of luck in her future!
